Visitor Guidelines

We are very excited to welcome you back – we’ve missed you too.

The YSP Code remains as important as ever and is accompanied by new guidelines to address the specific challenges we all now face. Please read and understand these guidelines before you visit.

These FAQs include everything you need to know about planning and booking your visit to YSP and what to expect on the day.

YSP began a phased reopening from Wednesday 29 July 2020 starting with the grounds and gardens, the Underground Gallery, and some limited indoor facilities.

See FAQs for details of what will be open when you visit.

To help us keep YSP staff, volunteers and other visitors safe, please take on-board the following essential information before you visit:

If you or a member of your household has or begins to display symptoms of COVID-19, please do not visit YSP.

We are limiting the number of visitors on-site so you can enjoy your visit safely. Numbers will be managed through the new online booking system. YSP is a registered charity and has to generate 80% of its income. We have lost £4 in every £5 since March so this charge is essential for our survival.

Booking in advance will enable us to control numbers on-site and comply with NHS track and trace. It will also prevent the need for you to use the touch-pad parking machines.

Please bring and keep your ticket with you during your visit, either on a phone or printed out. To ensure we are able to control numbers and meet NHS track and trace requirements we will be checking tickets during the day across the grounds.

Once at YSP you are free to explore and spend as much time here as you’d like.

Toilets in the Visitor Centre, Learning Building, and Bothy Garden are open at reduced capacity and with enhanced cleaning in place. Handwashing facilities are available in each individual toilet. Due to limited space, two people or one social bubble will be able to enter the toilets at once and exit following a one-way system. Additional temporary toilets are available in Car Park 4 (large field).

Help us keep YSP safe and maintain a safe distance from people outside of your group, including YSP staff and volunteers, throughout your visit.

Face coverings must be worn in all YSP buildings for the safety of visitors and staff, and in line with Government guidelines for enclosed spaces. Staff and visitors may choose whether to wear face coverings out of doors.

The YSP Shop at the Visitor Centre will be open from 29 July. Eight people will be able to enter the shop at one time. Please bring a contactless enabled debit or credit card to pay, as we will not be accepting cash at this time. Browse our collection of limited edition artists' prints, books, homeware, jewellery, textiles and more. As a registered charity, every purchase you make contributes to helping YSP through this difficult time.

As we assess phase one of our reopening we hope to begin to open all other indoor spaces, including galleries and restaurants. At the moment, however they remain closed until further notice.

Please look for and follow COVID-19 signage throughout your visit. It is vital that you follow all of the instructions to make this a safe visit for you and everyone else.

Take a look at our new map before you visit, so you can find your way around the new one-way routes.

The Café at YSP Learning is open with a reduced offer of hot and cold drinks, ice creams, cakes, sandwiches and snacks for takeaway only. The Cafe at the Visitor Centre is open with a similar reduced menu, but with indoor seating available. Please bring a contactless enabled debit or credit card to pay, as we will not be accepting cash.

As always, please adhere to the YSP Code and for your safety and others, please do not touch the sculptures.

Please do not leave litter. We are encouraging people to take their rubbish home where possible to reduce the health risk to our colleagues.

Do I have to book?

Yes, we have implemented a booking system, which allows us to manage the timing and the number of people entering YSP. It also means you don’t need to use the touch-pad parking machines on arrival, and that we can follow NHS track and trace guidelines.

How do I book?

On Friday 17 July you will be able to book tickets for dates Wednesday 29 July – Sunday 2 August. For subsequent weeks, tickets will be available on Fridays for the following week and weekends.

I plan to arrive by bike or on foot, do I still have to book?

We support green methods of transport, such as by bike or on foot and yes, you will still need to book in advance and show your ticket confirmation.

How much is a YSP ticket?

£6 per person. A ticket includes access to the Underground Gallery, open air galleries and YSP grounds and parking. The charge is based on our experience of average car occupancy and the average amount of time visitors spend at YSP but we now need every person to contribute in order to survive.

YSP is a registered charity and has lost £4 in every £5 since March and needs this income to open to the public.

Do I need to book a ticket for my child?

Under 18s are free, but should be included in your booking so that we can manage numbers.

How do the bookable timeslots work?

We have introduced a booking system with AM and PM timeslots to help us manage numbers onsite. All visitors must book a ticket in advance. You can arrive at any time within your booked timeslot, and there is a 30-minute grace period either side of your booked timeslot. Once onsite, you can stay for as long as you like, until the grounds close, if you wish.

How long can I stay for?

You can stay until the grounds close, regardless of the time you arrive.
Please keep a copy of your ticket on you during your visit. We will be checking tickets across the grounds.

Where should I park?

The car parks at The Weston and YSP Learning (via Park Lane) remain closed at this time.
