About YSP Friends: Winter Solstice Sunrise in the Skyspace
Mark winter solstice by experiencing the effect of the change of light from night to dawn in James Turrell’s tranquil Deer Shelter Skyspace, followed by a delicious breakfast overlooking the beautiful Country Park.
Created by American artist James Turrell, Skyspace consists of a large square chamber with an aperture cut into the roof of YSP's 18th-century Deer Shelter. As the winter solstice sun rises, you'll experience a heightened vision of the sky in a place of contemplation and revelation, harnessing the changing light of the Yorkshire sky during this truly special time.
Please note that the event includes an approximately 10 minute walk to Skyspace on rough and muddy ground. Please wear appropriate footwear. The event will be taking place outdoors early in the morning so may be cold, please dress warmly.
The sunrise is followed by breakfast and fresh coffee in The Kitchen Café at YSP Centre. A breakfast menu will be sent out by email to bookers one week prior to the event.
