About 5 Day Stone Carving Course with Marcia Bennett Male

Using hand tools from start to finish, learn the traditional skills of stone carving set against the inspiring backdrop of Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

Working outdoors and guided by Royal Society of Sculptors member, Marcia Bennett-Male you will learn the techniques required to rough out, shape and refine a piece of stone to create your own sculptural work.

This course is suitable for beginner and intermediate carvers.

About the Tutor:

Marcia Bennett-Male MRSS

An appointed member to the Royal Society of Sculptors, Marcia is a formally trained architectural stone carver, letter cutter and stone mason who works freelance. Amongst many years of teaching carving which include The British Museum, The Royal Academy and the City & Guilds of London Art School, Marcia is returning to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park’s education department having worked with them pre-pandemic for 15 consecutive years.

Based in London at Thames-Side Studios SE18, her public work can be seen in London at the Dulwich Picture Gallery, Goose Green, East Dulwich, Brixton Town Centre, St Margarets Church and Westminster Abbey. She also has public work at Wentworth Castle, South Yorkshire and Stowe Boarding School in Buckinghamshire. Currently Marcia has commissions for Bristol Cathedral and a statue for central London. She has successfully exhibited her own personal artwork throughout the UK, at the RA Summer Show London, as well as in New York, USA and in Mexico City, Mexico. Recently has done a residency in Pietrasanta, Tuscany Italy, working on portraiture.
