About Hand-building Folk Art Whistles with Emma Carlow
Join artist and designer Emma Carlow for a half-day ceramics workshop inspired by her vibrant collection of folk art bird whistles. Rooted in global traditions, these whistles reflect Emma’s interest in the craftsmanship of everyday objects and the way they express identity, culture, and ritual.
During the session, Emma will introduce her creative practice and guide you through the process of hand-building your own clay whistles. Working with clay, you will make two whistles and be able to add texture and pattern before applying underglaze colour to your design. Once dried and fired, your finished whistles will be posted to you to enjoy at home.
No previous ceramics experience is necessary just curiosity and a willingness to explore.
Emma shows her work regularly, both in solo and group exhibitions. Her work has sold internationally through the Royal Academy, the Royal Scottish Academy and Royal West of England Academy. She has created product lines for many museums including Ditchling Museum of Art + Craft, Pollocks Toy Museum and The Museum of International Folk Art in Santa Fe.
