About Visual Literacy Symposium
Join us for a full day exploration of visual literacy in the classroom, held at Yorkshire Sculpture Park, with a key-note speech and hands-on session by the artist Bob and Roberta Smith RA.
Art UK and Yorkshire Sculpture Park invite education professionals to an inspiring study day of talks and hands-on activities focussed on visual literacy with Susan M Coles (Vice-President of InSEA). There will be a special focus on the past, present and future led by artist Bob and Roberta Smith who will explore the relationship of visual culture to place, playfulness and process.
All participants will be invited to explore the National Arts Education Archive at YSP and take part in the co-production of a manifesto to push forward the discussion about the importance of visual literacy.
Morning session
During the morning session participants will have the opportunity to explore the archive, gathering inspiration, which will then be used as part of a manifesto making activity amplifying the importance of visual literacy within art education.
Afternoon session
After lunch and networking with fellow educator colleagues, Bob and Roberta Smith will lead a practical ‘manifesto-making’ workshop, using the theme of visual literacy to explore manifesto co-curation.
Participants will also take inspiration from the sculpture park in a practical artist-led workshop which will explore process-led art making and re-engage your arts practice and enhance wellbeing. The day will close with an active plenary chaired by Susan M Coles.
Tickets include lunch, hot drinks and a free goody bag worth £25 supplied by Dryad education.
This event is SOLD OUT. If you would like to be added to the waiting list, please email learning@ysp.org.uk with your name, school/workplace name, contact email address and phone number.
