About Gallery Drawing Day: Nicola Turner and LR Vandy

Join us for an immersive day spent drawing in response to two powerful exhibitions by artists LR Vandy and Nicola Turner, exploring the materials, narratives and processes used by the artists.

Enrich your drawing practice with this unique opportunity to work in our gallery spaces at the Chapel and The Weston, surrounded by art and inspiration. Guided by artist Jo Blaker, you will engage in process-led drawing techniques that deepen your understanding of the artworks and your own creative response to it.

The day will start at The Weston with a welcoming hot drink before a short walk to the Chapel to view Time’s Scythe by Nicola Turner. Inspired by Turner's interests in boundaries, we will experiment with our own representation of edges using different drawing media and techniques.

After a delicious lunch in The Weston, the workshop will continue in Rise by LR Vandy in the Weston Gallery. The afternoon will focus on themes from Vandy's work, in particular the material legacies of trade and labour and her use of rope as a sculptural material. We will explore twisting, binding and new ways of moving in our mark making. This session will invite some elements of collaboration in keeping with Vandy's interests in resilience and collectivism.
