About Felicity Aylieff: Expressions in Blue
Book your tickets to YSP this Easter to see two new exhibitions opening on the same day (5 April), by two exceptional female artists – Felicity Aylieff and Laura Ellen Bacon.
Expressions in Blue is an extraordinary exhibition where visitors will be dwarfed by a forest of monumental porcelain sculptures by renowned ceramicist Felicity Aylieff. Shown in the light-filled gallery at The Weston and outdoors, it is the perfect starting point for your visit to YSP this spring.
Thrown by hand, the monumental sculptures stand up to five meters high and feature the classic blue and white we associate with Chinese porcelain. The artist gives this a contemporary reinterpretation by using expressive, abstract brushstrokes.
Entry to The Weston Gallery is free. To discover new exhibitions in the Chapel, Visitor Centre and new sculptures outdoors, purchase a YSP General Admission Ticket. Parking is free and kids go free.

Over the past two decades Aylieff has worked in China, collaborating with expert craftspeople in Jingdezhen, a city known for its high-quality porcelain production for centuries. The close working relationships she has developed there have enabled her to push the limits of her work in this challenging material, significantly increasing its scale.
Shown alongside the porcelain forms, photographs reveal the remarkable process of making and its sheer physicality.
Also on display is a selection from Aylieff’s expansive range of mark-making tools, including giant horsehair brushes used to whip around the vessels and create energetic flicks and splashes.

The exhibition was first shown at The Shirley Sherwood Gallery of Botanical Art at Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. Expressions in Blue has been made possible through support and collaboration with Adrian Sassoon, London, who represent the artist internationally.

Peter Randall-Page: Mind Walk
Mind Walk is the latest in an ongoing series of works exploring the idea of one continuous line circumnavigating a three-dimensional form in such a way that the line traverses the entire surface of the stone. The stone in this case is a granite boulder from Bavaria shaped by ‘onion skin weathering’ as a result of thermal and chemical erosion. - Art Outdoors
Marialuisa Tadei: Night and Day
Tadei’s works commonly explore mystical and spiritual views inspired by anatomy and nature, and uses geometric forms, such as circles, to symbolise eternity. The two-sided mosaic Night and Day (Incarnazione) is an extension of the artist’s Oculus Dei series (1998-2008), colourful and abstract disks made of glass and marble that can be interpreted as the details in human eyes. - Art Outdoors
Ursula von Rydingsvard: Heart in Hand
Heart in Hand relates to an earlier, larger work called Luba that was made in cedar and bronze, and is on permanent display at Storm King Art Center in upstate New York. Both works are intended to suggest a sense of protection and nurturing, like the arm of a mother cradling a baby.
