About School Staff CPD: Wellbeing and Nature Connection

For all school staff from Wakefield District schools

Join us this summer for a guided visit to the Chapel to explore the immersive sculptural installation, Into Being by artist Laura Ellen Bacon. Into Being is a site-specific organic sculpture made from Somerset willow which interacts with and weaves around the architecture of the 18th century Chapel. Viewers are invited to stand within it to admire the physicality of the abstract form and the sweeping lines and scent of the willow for a truly sensory experience.

On the walk to and from the Chapel, we will share information on why being outdoors, on even the gloomiest of days, is essential for our wellbeing, plus tips for maximising our sleeping well potential. We will discover how time in nature, light, and connection to the rhythms of nature can support our physical and emotional health.

We will also explore the folklore of willow trees and the importance of spending time amongst trees and their health benefits.

School staff will also consider how this can be applied to their own wellbeing and how to share this in the classroom to promote the importance of sleep to students and their families.

The session will be led by Sara Kendrick, Practice Development Lead with the Future in Mind Mental Health Support Team, CAMHS.

The event will begin in The Bothy with tea and coffee from 09.30. The session itself will begin promptly at 10.00. Participants should report to the Information Desk on arrival. Further information will be emailed to participants in advance. For any enquiries, please email learning@ysp.org.uk.
