About Andi Walker: Wrapped in Cold Hard Comfort Sharing Event

Join Leeds-based artist Andi Walker this half term in the Bothy Gallery, where they will share their research and work in progress for Wrapped in Cold Hard Comfort, a new outdoor sculpture for the YSP landscape that will be revealed in summer 2026.

The work takes the form of an articulated slate quilt draped over a chaise longue, marking a shift in the artist’s practice from textiles to sculpture. By working with slate, Walker emphasises qualities of weight, hardness and discomfort, with the act of stitching into its resistant surface serving as a metaphor for resilience and daily persistence. As the work weathers and gradually disintegrates, it reflects on permanence in outdoor sculpture.

Wrapped in Cold Hard Comfort will be displayed in its current work-in-progress form alongside material tests, offering an insight into the making process with slate, thread and fabric.

Learn more about the project during informal presentations by the artist at 12.30 and 13.30 each day. Drawing materials, handling objects and books will also be available to inspire you to create your own responses to the artwork.

Open to everyone, pop in between 12.00–15.00 on Wed 18, Thur 19, and Fri 20 February.

Wrapped in Cold Hard Comfort is made possible by an Arts Council England National Lottery Project Grant.
