Yorkshire Sculpture Park (YSP) invites visitors to swap screen time for quality time this summer, with an inspiring programme of creative, outdoor and indoor experiences for groups of all ages.

Open seven days a week throughout the summer, YSP offers 500 acres of stunning Yorkshire landscape to explore, blending world-class sculpture with natural play spaces and engaging activities whatever the weather.

At the heart of the summer programme is Hold to This Earth, a major indoor exhibition in the Underground Gallery featuring work by 65 contemporary Indigenous North American artists from the Tia Collection. Visitors can also discover exhibitions and installations across the Park by artists including LR Vandy, Nicola Turner and Louise Lockhart, with new work by Jakob Rowlinson, Andi Walker, Annie Montgomerie and Jim Ever being introduced throughout the summer.

Families will find plenty of opportunities for creative play and exploration. The Hidden Forest offers a magical woodland setting where children can take part in drop-in sessions inspired by nature, sculpture and sensory play. Open every Thursday and Friday during the summer school holidays (21 July- 1 Sept), the Hidden Forest is designed for younger children but open to all ages. These sessions encourage creativity, discovery and shared experiences for mixed-age groups.

For babies and toddlers, Sculpture Baby: Hidden Forestprovides a calm, sensory introduction to art and nature, inspired by Barbara Hepworth’s The Family of Man. Meanwhile,Outdoor Sculpture Building: Come Rain, Come Shine takes place every Tuesday during school holidays, inviting families to collaborate on large-scale, hands-on creations in a playful and experimental environment. Booking in advance is advisable, with two sessions available, 11am-12pm and 2-3pm.

Closer to the Visitor Centre, Little Wild Wood offers a natural adventure play space built from windfall trees, stumps and willow, where children can build dens, climb and explore at their own pace. Indoor options include Artful Saturdays in the Underground Gallery, an artist-led activity to be discovered every month, where you can also find The Studio which is open daily - a welcoming creative space for drawing, reading and relaxing, with activity baskets inspired by Hold to This Earth.

Beyond the programme, visitors can explore over 90 outdoor sculptures set within beautifully landscaped areas including the Formal Garden and Bothy Garden, offering endless opportunities for discovery and inspiration.

YSP also provides a range of food and drink options, from locally sourced lunches in its cafés, to ice creams and £5 children’s lunch bags. At The Weston Restaurant, visitors can enjoy a seasonal summer menu featuring fresh flavours, sharing boards and refreshing drinks, ideal for relaxed dining in scenic surroundings with iconic views

With children enjoying free admission and free parking also available on site, YSP remains one of the UK’s leading destinations for accessible, family-friendly days out that combine art, landscape and play.
