Andrew Waddington: Betwixt and Between – The Poetry of Landscape
– Upper Space, YSP CentreAbout Andrew Waddington: Betwixt and Between – The Poetry of Landscape
Bringing the Cornish coast to Yorkshire painter and printmaker Andrew Waddington’s new works in the Visitor Centre incorporated elements of architecture, mythology, poetry, art and music.
Using a delicate colour palette, the exhibition featured a variety of mediums, including paintings, prints, and original drawings, depicting both the Cornish, and for the first time, Yorkshire landscapes.
When looking at his paintings the viewer does not know at what period in time the various elements are present; animals and objects float and fade in and out, and perspective is not necessarily followed.
The exhibition was the perfect springboard to get out in nature and explore the fabulous vistas, flora and fauna here at YSP.
Fans of Waddington’s work could purchase a unique artwork from the exhibition, with the proceeds shared between the artist and YSP. We are a registered charity and accredited museum, all proceeds from sales help us to share incredible art and continue to create meaningful, enjoyable experiences for everyone in a unique environment.

David Nash: Seventy-one Steps
71 oak slabs were charred and oiled on site before installing, and were placed to work with the lie of the land. The steps are completed by 30 tonnes of coal surrounding the steps, creating a stunning installation that will erode and change over time. - Art Outdoors

Roger Hiorns: Seizure
In 2008 Roger Hiorns transformed an empty council flat in Southwark, London into Seizure, a sparkling blue world of copper sulphate crystals. The work was created using 75,000 litres of liquid copper sulphate, which was pumped into the former dwelling to create a strangely beautiful and somewhat menacing crystalline growth on the walls, floor, ceiling and even the bath of the abandoned flat. - Profile

Kimsooja: A Needle Woman: Galaxy was a Memory, Earth is a Souvenir
Kimsooja developed this elegant and towering conical sculpture in collaboration with scientists at Cornell University. The nanopolymer in which its panels are covered enhances the refractive qualities of light, giving an iridescent effect similar to that which occurs naturally on the wings of a butterfly or a beetle’s shell. It is responsive to changing light conditions and brought to life by sunlight on its surface.
