Andrew Waddington: Betwixt and Between – The Poetry of Landscape
– Upper Space, YSP CentreAbout Andrew Waddington: Betwixt and Between – The Poetry of Landscape
Bringing the Cornish coast to Yorkshire this autumn, painter and printmaker Andrew Waddington’s new works in the Visitor Centre incorporate elements of architecture, mythology, poetry, art and music.
Using a delicate colour palette, the exhibition features a variety of mediums, including paintings, prints, and original drawings, depicting both the Cornish, and for the first time, Yorkshire landscapes.
When looking at his paintings the viewer does not know at what period in time the various elements are present; animals and objects float and fade in and out, and perspective is not necessarily followed.
This exhibition is the perfect springboard to get out in nature and explore the fabulous vistas, flora and fauna here at YSP.
Fans of Waddington’s work can purchase a unique artwork, with the proceeds shared between the artist and YSP. We are a registered charity and accredited museum, all proceeds from sales help us to share incredible art and continue to create meaningful, enjoyable experiences for everyone in a unique environment.

Heather Peak and Ivan Morison: Silence – Alone in a World of Wounds
Silence – Alone in a World of Wounds is installed alongside Upper Lake within a stand of birch trees and aims to create solitary communion with the natural world. Responding to the question 'Can art save us from extinction?', the artists developed a sculptural space made of natural materials including timber and thatch. It acts as an extended open pavilion and becomes a framework and quiet space set within nature. - Art Outdoors

Jaume Plensa: Wilsis
Wilsis appears to be deep in thought or dreaming. Her eyes are closed and she is inward-looking and self-contained, remote from the present moment and the beauty of the surrounding scenery. Although monumental in size at over 7 metres high, this sculpture depicts a normal girl, rather than immortalising a traditionally extraordinary or powerful person. - Event
