About Opera North Youth Company: Songs of Alchemy

Join the Opera North Youth Company for this newly devised work for voices and strings created in partnership with Yorkshire Sculpture Park, inspired by Bharti Kher: Alchemies.

With the support of Michael Betteridge (Composer) and Jonathan Ainscough (Writer/Director), young performers from the Opera North Youth Company will be spending an intensive week in the studio, immersed in the work of leading contemporary artist, Bharti Kher, whose current exhibition, Alchemies, is on display in YSP’s Underground Gallery.

Throughout the week, the Youth Company will be devising and developing a 30-minute performance. The performance will respond to some of the themes explored in Bharti’s exhibition, but will also be a reflection of how the young people view the pieces of art themselves through their own words and music.

Following a performance at the Howard Assembly Room, the cast will be taking the show to Yorkshire Sculpture Park, for an immersive performance in and amongst the sculptures.

This 30-minute performance will begin in the main YSP Centre. The Youth Company will then sing as they walk to the Underground Gallery, where the rest of the performance will take place surrounded by Bharti Kher: Alchemies.

Attendance is free of charge with any YSP General Admission ticket. Just drop-in. Everyone welcome!
