The Wakefield Curriculum

The Wakefield Curriculum has been created by SPARK, Wakefield’s Local Cultural Education Partnership, in collaboration with Wakefield teachers and local artists. The curriculum was developed for Wakefield Council’s Our Year 2024 cultural programme and includes three core themes: Sculpture, The Local Environment and Coal Mining.

There is a suite of resources for each of the three themes, aimed at EYFS, KS1 and KS2. Find out more in The Wakefield Curriculum overview document.

Yorkshire Sculpture Park worked with The Hepworth Wakefield and local artists to develop the following sculpture resources.

Plus, it includes a list of helpful online resources and a sculpture glossary.

The Local Environment - Exploring Nature with Under Fives

There are lots of resources to explore in The Local Environment section of the curriculum, some of which are particularly helpful for teachers on a visit to Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Local artist Bryony Pritchard has developed three short activities for under-fives, using deep listening, mark making and noticing to develop pupils’ understanding of the natural world.
