Leo Fitzmaurice presents familiar objects in ways that make us reconsider our observations and assumptions. Many of his works are based around issues of consumerism and reference our everyday environment using found and discarded objects
Born in Shropshire, England, in 1963, Fitzmaurice attended Liverpool Polytechnic before earning his graduate degree from Manchester Metropolitan University. He has exhibited extensively since the mid-90s, including at New York’s White Columns and the Shanghai Biennial, among other institutions and galleries. In 2012, Fitzmaurice was the recipient of the 5th Northern Art Prize. You can see Fitzmaurice's work is held in the collections of Manchester Art Gallery, The Royal London Hospital, Locus+ Archive, and numerous private collections.
