Press Story

Yorkshire Sculpture Park (YSP) invites visitors to enjoy creative festive activities this winter with a rich programme of seasonal experiences perfect for getting into the Christmas spirit.

YSP’s varied Christmas line-up includes porcelain bell decorating and jewellery making workshops for adults, drop-in making activities for families, storytelling, festive feasts by candlelight and musical entertainment to create a warm holiday feel. The highlight of this year’s programme will be an enchanting, immersive display in the Chapel by internationally renowned experiential artist collective Marshmallow Laser Feast, celebrating the natural world and its interconnectivity.

The programme of hands-on making workshops is open for bookings on YSP’s website, and will be led by talented artists, guiding participants to create their own unique work. Children can explore their creativity every weekend leading up to the Christmas holiday, getting stuck into artist-led drop-in activities in the Bothy Gallery. Little Wild Wood, an outdoor natural play area, lit up for the season will be open for little ones to explore and get close to nature in a safe and contained location next to YSP Centre.

A colourful new exhibition of works by painter and printmaker Andrew Waddington opens on 15 November. Betwixt and Between – The Poetry of Landscape includes paintings, prints, and original drawings, depicting both the Cornish and Yorkshire landscapes. All works will be for sale.

For those looking to enjoy seasonal dining in a beautiful setting, YSP invites you to The Weston to enjoy atmospheric Christmas by Candlelight. Guests will be welcomed with mulled cider and live music before indulging in a three-course festive menu, made from locally sourced ingredients, while enjoying stunning views of the Park. The Kitchen Café serves a delicious Christmas roast lunch on Sundays throughout December, perfect for a relaxed family meal. Don’t forget to visit the shops for unique gifts and handmade decorations to take home. YSP is once again taking part in national campaign Museum Shop Sunday, on 30 November, with 20% selected ranges both in store and online – perfect for Christmas shopping and to purchase that item you’ve had your eye on.

YSP is a charity, committed to making great art and stunning landscape accessible to all. Admission is free for children and young people aged 18 and under, and individual adult tickets are just £11 with Gift Aid, offering one of the best value days out in Yorkshire. Free parking is available, and access to The Weston restaurant and Gallery is complimentary. Be sure to book online to guarantee entry during the busy holiday periods.

YSP continues to be a must-visit destination this festive season where art, nature, and creativity meet, offering a memorable holiday experience for all ages and abilities.
