News Story
I programme activities for families, communities and adults at YSP, these range from designing sculpture trails to working with artists on creative family sessions.
I support visitors in finding a connection to themselves, their families and the world around them. By being curious and spending time in nature we begin to take notice of people and our surroundings, the work I do helps visitors value the importance of play and imagining together to create wonderful memories at YSP.
YSP is the perfect place to meet up with friends and family and is a short ride on the 96 bus from Wakefield. There is always something new to discover at YSP and this summer is no different. Exhibitions by Bharti Kher, Leilah Babiyre and Elisabeth Frink are the perfect place for visitors to question art and get creative with free activity baskets and talking point cards.
Everyday there is something free to do this Summer of Fun at YSP. Leap across tree stumps and build hideouts inLittle Wild Wood, be inspired to make an outdoor sculpture, drop-in to the magical Hidden Forest Fridays with artist Oksana Tyminska and bring the family together for Artful Saturdays.
The The Imagination Station in Bharti Kher’s exhibition Alchemiesencourages visitors of all ages to play and experiment with materials inspired by the powerful artworks on display. On Fridays during the holidays artist Puy Soden is leading a fun outdoor session – be invigorated by the beautiful Yorkshire landscape and get making.
YSP is a haven and a place of peace for many. Recently we have worked with Wakefield Council to support children in care and families who are facing difficult times, welcomed refugees and asylum seekers to come and enjoy the Park, and hosted a spectacular performance by young people from Opera North.
I joined YSP 13 years ago and have so many special memories of families laughing and coming together, a favourite is when one child asked me how many more sleeps it was until they came back to YSP.
Kids go free and love YSP whatever the weather.
