Environmental Policy 2022–2030

Yorkshire Sculpture Park is committed to urgent action in response to the Climate and Biodiversity emergency.

YSP aspires to create a safe, carbon neutral space for people to enjoy art and nature within the open air. We aim to ensure that our audience feels a connection to nature and as a result are more inclined to share our aspirations for nurturing and conserving the natural world around us.

We will endeavour to further embed environmental thinking in everything we do to achieve our ambitions of becoming a lead organisation in arts and the environment.

Reducing our carbon footprint further is of the upmost importance. By following our action plan, we are aiming to reduce our scope 1 & 2 carbon emissions by 50% between 2019 and 2030. Our ambition is to also to lower scope 3 emissions, those indirectly linked to our organisation, wherever possible.

We are custodians of 500 acres of Grade II Listed 18th century landscape that includes a local nature reserve, historic woodland, parkland, wood pasture, two lakes and a section of the River Dearne. Through the continued protection and careful management of the YSP estate the conservation of its existing flora and fauna can be achieved and extended.

In response to the climate and ecological crisis that we are all facing, YSP aims to increase the quality and range of its valuable habitats to encourage a higher level of biodiversity.

Through our learning, artistic and public programmes, including digital and partnership work we plan to engage further with our visitors on environmental issues and promote access to nature and the benefits of its protection.

We will endeavour to promote environmental responsibility to our audience, partners, and stakeholders.
