About Janine Burrows: Table to Tide: A Yorkshire Conversation
Table to Tide: A Yorkshire Conversation brings together a new body of work by Yorkshire-based designer, painter and illustrator Janine Burrows, celebrating the Yorkshire landscape.
In this exhibition Burrows explores many endearing and captivating places found in Yorkshire, including some exclusive site-specific pieces created especially for YSP.
With a background in surface pattern and printed textile, Burrows creates expressive, textural depictions of British countryside and coastal areas in paint, using expressive brush strokes, subtle colour and delicate detailing. The medium of painting enables Burrows to explore her fascination and inspiration of the landscape with a carefully considered colour palette and a gentle hand, creating poetic scenes, rich with texture and delicate naïve detailing.
Table to Tide: A Yorkshire Conversation transports Burrows back to her grassroots, from her back garden to the North Yorkshire Coast, her neighbourhood allotments, to YSP.
Small havens and longed-for spaces, celebrate her birthplace, her homeland, and all things Yorkshire. Depicting scenes Burrows holds dear to her heart, such as Bretton Hall, which features a view of the Mansion House from across the lake at YSP, and Whitby Rooftops and Quayside, which portrays the beautiful terracotta rooftops and estuary in Whitby harbour.
Alongside sweeping landscapes, Burrows explores still life in this exhibition. From kitchen table to potting bench, the artist captures moments of pure joy in familiar scenes, such as A Brew, Biscuits And A Bunch Of Daffodils.
Unique works across different media will be available to purchase, including a new limited edition screen print. There will be a beautiful range of merchandise developed to complement the show including a carry-all tote bag and pouch, a 10-inch bone china platter and mug, and a wooden jigsaw puzzle and postcards featuring exclusive designs by Burrows and imagery from the show.
