About School Staff CPD: Light, Sleep and Wellbeing Connection

During the winter while nature rests, join us for a guided visit to the Chapel to explore Light Organ by local artists Akeelah Bertram, Adam Glatherine and creative technologist Simon Fletcher. Light Organ is an interactive experience bringing sound and light to YSP’s 18th century Chapel. School staff will also visit James Turrell’s Deer Shelter Skyspace on the journey back to the YSP Centre and learn how sleeping well benefits our physical and mental health.

We will share tips on maximising our sleeping well potential, including why even on the gloomiest, darkest of winter days, it is essential for our wellbeing to spend time outdoors. We will discover how time in nature, light, and connection to the rhythms of nature can support our physical and emotional health. School staff will also consider how this can be applied to their own wellbeing and how to share this in the classroom to promote the importance of sleep to students and their families.

This session will be led by Sara Kendrick, sleep and wellbeing specialist and has been generously funded by Wakefield Council.

The event will begin in the Boardroom in the Visitor Centre with tea and coffee from 09.30. The session itself will begin promptly at 10.00. Participants should report to the Information Desk on arrival. Further information will be emailed to participants in advance. For any enquiries, please email learning@ysp.org.uk.
