York St John University Collaboration with YSP

As part of YSP’s ongoing relationship with York St John University, we are delighted to welcome two graduate artists to participate in pop-up presentations of their work alongside the exhibition Occasional Geometries: Rana Begum Curates the Arts Council Collection.

Lois Batty and Laura Camplejohn were chosen on the strength of their degree show displays, which have strong correlations with the artists selected by Rana Begum and the theme of geometry.

Lois Batty
23–24 September 2017
Lois Batty graduated from York St John with a degree in Fine Art and her practice is centered around colour, shape and architecture. Born in Newcastle, Batty uses a mixture of drawing, collage, photography and sculpture to explore scale and create installations inspired by brutalist architecture.

Laura Jayne Camplejohn
30 September–1 October 2017
Laura Camplejohn is an emerging artist based in York, UK who works with sculpture, painting, drawing and photography. Her practice is informed by handling and experiencing materials in new ways, creating installations using salvaged industrial materials and found natural objects to give them new meanings and transforming their original purpose.

It’s Time to Tri is an ongoing series of work, which explores the positive and negative spaces of tetrahedron forms. Using light and projections Camplejohn casts shadows of sculptural forms onto the walls to extend the presence of her sculptures, attempting to invade the viewer’s space.
