Born in New Delhi in 1964, where he lives and works. Amar Kanwar has distinguished himself through films and multimedia works, which often explore the politics of power, violence, sexuality, and justice.
In 2005, Kanwar received the 1st Edward Munch Award for Contemporary Art and holds an Honorary Doctorate in Fine Arts from Maine College of Art, Portland, ME. He is the holder of the MacArthur Fellowship in India, and has won the Golden Gate Award from the San Francisco International Film Festival in 1999.
