Ursula von Rydingsvard: Heart in Hand

Country Park

The form of Heart in Hand relates to an earlier work from 2010 called Luba – made in both cedar and bronze. Like that work, Heart in Hand is intended to resemble the arm of a mother cradling a baby, suggesting a sense of protection.

In recent years, von Rydingsvard has made a number of large-scale works in bronze, which involve making a full size model in cedar that is then cast so that the texture and characteristics of the wood are embedded into the new material.
