Lynn Chadwick: Little Girl

Hillside

Little Girl is part of a series of seated figures made by Lynn Chadwick through the 1970s and 1980s.

The triangular, flat head and face are typical of his female subjects, which seem iscolated by their lack of facial expression and inability to communicate.

Chadwick often replaced elements of the human body with geometric forms. Art theorist Sir Herbert Read described as the “geometry of fear”, stating that “these British sculptors have given sculpture what it never had before our time - a linear, cursive quality”.
