Kenny Hunter: Bonfire

Kenny Hunter’s work explores popular culture through the legacy of a darker history that shapes contemporary life. He often presents humble or everyday subject matter as monumental statuary, exploring the responses to cultural changes within our modern urban environment.

The Bonfire sculptures explore our complex relationship with and understanding of fire. Discovered in the landscape, these works can indicate adventure, wilderness and the traditions of nature and survival strategies often associated with childhood. The vibrant colour of the sculptures reminds us of fire’s role as giver of warmth and nourishment, but also its ability to destroy and the subsequent environmental impact this brings.
