New year, new you with sculpture courses at Yorkshire Sculpture Park

Learn a new skill in the new year with a range of adult sculpture courses in the stunning surroundings of Yorkshire Sculpture Park (YSP).
 
Whether it’s metal working or plaster sculpting, wood carving or wax casting, YSP’s 2019 sculpture courses offer a chance to work directly with specialist sculptors against an inspirational backdrop of sculptures by some of the world’s greatest artists, including Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth and Ai Weiwei.
 
Suitable for all levels of experience, the sculpture courses range from affordable two-day tasters to in-depth five-day explorations. Every year over 130 people take part in the courses, which YSP has offered for nearly 30 years.

Wax Casting
Two-day course: 18–19 May 2019 / £165
Explore the possibilities of working in wax, led by artist Liadin Cooke, to create your own sculpture using casting as a method of production. Find out more
 
Sculpting in Plaster
Two-day course: 1–2 June 2019 / £165
Instructed by sculptor Lewis Robinson, make a plaster sculpture using a range of techniques including creating an armature, casting and carving. Find out more
 
Stone Carving
Five-day course: 3–7 July 2019 & 14–18 August 2019 / £340
Work with skilled stonemason Marcia Bennett-Male to learn stone carving techniques with plenty of time to develop and refine your skills, and create your own stone sculpture. Find out more
 
Wood Carving
Five-day course: 7–11 August 2019 / £340
Guided by expert wood carver Arthur De Mowbray, journey through the various techniques of carving wood to make a sculptural carving. Find out more
 
Stone Carving: Extended Practice
Five-day course: 4–8 September 2019 / £405
Work with skilled stonemason Marcia Bennett-Male to develop and refine your stone carving skills using stone with a fine finish and a high polish. Best suited to individuals with some experience of stone carving. Find out more
 
Winter Metal
Two-day course: 16–17 November 2019 / £295
In this introduction to metalworking, make a sculpture using a range of techniques including welding, plasma cutting, and using shaping equipment and a forge, with metal artists Brian Fell and Owen Cunningham. Find out more
