Enjoy great art and events in the great outdoors at Yorkshire Sculpture Park this summer

Visit Yorkshire Sculpture Park (YSP) over the holidays for a summer of great art and exciting events in the great outdoors.
 
Visitors can start off the summer holidays early with A Weekend of Wonderful Things, in celebration of YSP’s 40th anniversary this year, from 14 to 16 July 2017. From dawn until dusk, encounter everything that is wonderful about YSP with a range of special events and experiences, including Early-Morning Yoga, Caribbean Carnival and Secret Silent Disco. Enjoy art from all angles with space to breathe in the Park’s stunning 500-acre landscape, complemented by delicious food and drink. 
 
Family fun continues throughout the holidays; bring your budding photographers along for Frame, Focus, Shoot: Photography for Bigger Kids (26 July / 11.00–13.00 & 14.00–16.00 / £3 / aimed at age 6+) and curate your own story through a series of photographs. Meet Monkey, Rabbit, Ox and friends as you participate in Animal Escapades (2 Aug / 11.00–12.00, 13.00–14.00 & 15.00–16.00 / £3 / aimed at under 6s) with storyteller Oksana Tyminska. Or, embark on a top-secret mission investigating sculptures, searching for clues and uncovering mysteries in Art Adventurers (19 Aug / 10.30–12.00 & 13.00–14.30 / £3 / aimed at age 5+).
 
Hunt down The ARTcart, which will roam the Park on 5 and 25 August (11.00–16.00 / aimed at all ages), for free art making, art thinking, and art playing; and on 9 August, explore the Shape and Colour of Light (11.00–12.30 & 13.15–16.00 / Free / aimed at all ages) with fun and creative drop-in activities at Longside Gallery. Regular events, also running throughout the summer, include Outdoor Sculpture Building: Come Rain, Come Shine (every Tues between 25 July & 29 Aug / 11.00–12.00 & 13.30–14.30 / £3); Little Explorers for under 5s (last Thurs of the month – 27 July, 31 Aug & 28 Sept / 10.30–12.00 & 13.00–14.30 / £3); and Make Yourself at Home: Family Studio Space (Sun–Tues between 30 July & 5 Sept / 11.00–16.00 / Free / Drop In).
 
For grown-ups, take some time out for yourself in Recharge: Yoga Retreat (27 Aug & 24 Sept / 10.00–16.00 / £75); learn a new skill in one YSP’s creative workshops, including Wood Carving (9–13 Aug, five-day course / 10.00–16.00 / £305) and Paper Flower Arranging with Alice Pattullo (16 Sept / 10.00–16.00 / £85); or explore YSP’s fascinating history and heritage features in The Bretton Family Pleasure Grounds: Summer Picnic (19 Aug / 15.00 / £8.50 inc. drinks, treats and free parking).
 
Be among the first to see Occasional Geometries: Rana Begum Curates the Arts Council Collection, in Longside Gallery (15 July–29 October 2017); experience mind-boggling sculptures made from dice, glass, stainless steel and bronze in Tony Cragg: A Rare Category of Objects (until 3 September 2017), in the Underground Gallery, Garden Gallery and open air; and take a look at Alice Pattullo’s superstition and folklore-inspired prints in Of House and Home (17 June–17 September 2017), in YSP Centre.
 
The summer holidays are also a fantastic chance to discover an exciting display of new work in the open air by leading international artists, also part of the anniversary celebrations. New installations include Ai Weiwei’s dramatic group of 12 bronze Zodiac Heads; 80 powerful African figures by British-Trinidadian artist Zak Ové; and a beautiful new seven-metre-high cast iron head by Jaume Plensa which overlooks the lake.
 
Don’t forget to visit YSP Shop for exclusive exhibition merchandise and a distinctive selection of products form international artists, contemporary designers and talented makers. Then grab a bite to eat at YSP Restaurant with delicious locally sourced, seasonal food and stunning views of the Henry Moore bronzes in the Country Park.
 
YSP is open 7 days a week from 10.00–18.00. Admission is free, parking charges apply.
