Enjoy festive events at Yorkshire Sculpture Park this Christmas

11 Nov 2016

Get into the festive spirit this winter at Yorkshire Sculpture Park (YSP) with an abundance of activities and events, glorious food and a treasure trove of treats to meet all your Christmas shopping needs.
Watch, interact and participate in Uncanny Theatre Presents: The Little Prince (10.12.16 / 13.30 & 15.30 / £5 / suitable for age 4+), a fantastic family theatre performance inspired by exhibiting artist Not Vital’s love of the wonderful and timeless tale, The Little Prince. After the performance enjoy a spot of stargazing guided by professional astronomers.
See YSP as you’ve never seen it before with Sunrise in the Skyspace (03+10.12.16 / 06.30 / Adults £25, children £15) a unique opportunity to experience a heightened vision of the sky in James Turrell’s Deer Shelter Skyspace, followed by a hearty full English breakfast. Also, discover the interesting features and follies of the historic grounds of YSP with Twilight Walk: Winter Pleasure Grounds (10.12.16 / 14.00–16.30 / £8.50), a wintery candlelit walk and talk.
For some musical merriment, get your tickets for Brass Christmas now (17.12.16 / 19.00 / Adults £38, children over 12 £30, concessions £34). Enjoy an evening viewing of the Not Vital exhibition, accompanied by Emley Moor Brass Quartet, followed by a three-course meal in the YSP Restaurant and a Christmas carol sing-a-long with the Emley Moor Brass Band. Visitors to the Park on 18 December will also enjoy Festive Music with Shepley Band (13.30–15.30 / Free / Drop in) in YSP Centre.
And relax…!
Christmas is done and dusted, get out of the house and away from the leftover turkey! Art and Social (29.12.16 / 14.00–16.00 / £5) offers a wonderful opportunity for over 55s to join a monthly social event and enjoy tea, coffee and cake, followed by a look around current exhibitions, a gentle walk, or perhaps a drawing or making activity. Whether you come alone or with a friend, we guarantee a warm welcome.
Or undo all the Christmas excess and start the new year as you mean to go on in the special Recharge: Yoga Retreat (01.01.17 / 10.00–16.00 / £65). Melt away your aches and pains and revive your energy with a morning of yoga, followed by a delicious lunch and a nourishing afternoon activity.
There are great exhibitions to see this winter too – don’t miss Flights of Memory by painter and printmaker Angela Harding, which presents a striking collection of works inspired by the thriving wildlife of Britain, all of which are available to buy. Also see internationally renowned artist Not Vital’s first major UK exhibition, on display in the Underground Gallery, Garden Gallery and open air, until 2 January 2017; and South African artist James Webb’s powerful exhibition We Listen for the Future, in which the artist brings the extraordinary percussion of beating hands, the unfamiliar sounds of jackals and foreign birdsong, and the unnerving noise of barely audible heartbeats to the Chapel and open air.
Admission to the Park is free. YSP is open every day over the festive period, from 10am to 5pm, except Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
