Leap of Faith

YSP Learning
18 Oct–3 Dec 2018 – Open weekends only

Leap of Faith explores how horse assisted development and creative expression might benefit wellbeing. The team consisted of women from diverse backgrounds, including Kirklees Women Centre, Ashiana Sheffield, artists, therapists and researchers.

Inspired by The Coffin Jump (2018, Katrina Palmer), the project centres around participants’ relationships with each other and horses. Participants spent time with horses in a shared therapeutic space to gain confidence and self-awareness. They made artwork in response to being with the horses and working together at the Park.

Through processes of recognition, being together and reflection, friendships were developed, laughter and sadness was shared and self-belief was built. In contrast to the diary entry featured on the back of The Coffin Jump, the group proclaimed at the end that ‘something special did happen’.
