Race Equality Statement 2020

Yorkshire Sculpture Park acknowledges recent, historic and ongoing injustice within the global Black community and we express our solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement and ethnic minorities everywhere.

YSP was founded in 1977 to enable fairer cultural access and opportunity and we are committed to being part of change towards a better world. We do not tolerate discrimination in any form and are active in our programme, policies and behaviours to address inequalities. We recognise that economic, social and cultural disadvantage is complex and includes the intersections of race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality and class in the experience of inequality.

Expressing solidarity is not enough and we pledge to take action at YSP. We will extend proactive measures in governance, recruitment and staff training, work placements, audience development, and artist opportunities.

By continuing to institute policies and action plans, YSP will help address structural racism and the inequalities underpinning society to contribute towards a more diverse and inclusive Britain.
